Today I was inspired by the value of community. The saying “We are Smarter” than me is something I have been contemplating a lot lately, there is evidence of this everywhere you look. After a call with some nursing colleagues where it was quite evident that the collective wisdom took us to places that as individuals we were not likely to go. But so much more happened… it was not just about the excellent work that happened, it was that the group got there with a level of respect, caring, compassion and kindness that each of us felt and were inspired by. It makes one wonder what we could all accomplish if we not only worked together to leverage our collective experiences and wisdom, but if we all could do that within the kind of harmony we all felt today.
I was inspired by a presention that the Director of Shared Governance for LRMC presented at our last meeting with our CNO. She described the experience that her family had while her grandson was a patient at the Cinncinati Childrens Hospital. The consistency, care and passion that she described was unbelievable to say the least. From the top down. I sat there listening with chill-bumps on my arms and tears in my eyes. The type of care that she described was the true reason that I went into nursing. Often, with our busy schedules, meetings, managerial responsibilities and family commitments, we forget what that feels like. It truly put me back into the right place and mindset just at the time that I needed it!!!
This morning at my yoga/exercise class there was a woman 87 years old participating! While she could not do all the moves everyone else did, what an inspiration! So often in our society the elderly are left out and from my point of view they have so much to offer. Why not create ways for our elders to assist with the shortage of healthcare workers we have. There must be many ways they could make meaningful contributions to healthcare. Perhaps they could just spend time in hospitals giving time to patients that nurses just don’t have. Hold a hand or listen or cry with our patients. I can imagine people getting better faster with this kind of contribution. What do others think of this idea?
As a member of the Concerro team I am in and out of hospitals all over the country weekly. Unfortunately I had an accident 2 weeks ago while riding my dirt-bike here in the Georgia area. This accident required that I be transported to an Atlanta based hospital trauma center. I was transported to Atlanta Medical Center, which is also a client of Concerro.
In my time of need their staff was professional, accommodating, and very helpful to both me and my family. This certainly was not a planned visit but I was impressed with the quality of care I received. In short, I was inspired by this group of professional and was glad to have them close by in my time of need. A big Thank You to the team, on the 8th floor, of Atlanta Medical Center.
I saw this quote today, and it ispired me:
"What we hope ever to do with ease, we must learn first to do with diligence."
